Fly Fishing Lamar River

lamar.jpg The Lamar River drains the largest and most rugged mountains in Yellowstone, the Absaroka Range. After the run off in mid July the Lamar returns to its banks and begins the serpentine voyage 45 miles where it flows in to the Yellowstone River. Cutthroat in the valley range from 12-18 inches and the occasional 20+ inch fish is caught. The Lamar fishes best in August and September with big attractors and terrestrials as the best patterns to use to bring fish up from their lies.
