Fly Fishing Wyoming's Salt River
The prime thirty mile section extends through pastoral valleys between Afton and Alpine, Wyoming. The Salt holds a few rainbows and brook trout but the prime attractions are the Snake River Fine Spotted Cutthroat and brown trout in the 10-22 inch range. The river offers great opportunities to catch trophy browns in the early and late part of the season as the fish move up from Palisades Reservoir. The beauty of the Salt, in addition to the surrounding mountains, is the early season fishing. Spring run off occurs sooner, and clears faster, than at other western Wyoming rivers. WorldCast Anglers has historically been able to access the Salt River by mid-May and utilize the river until some of the bigger rivers have cleared.
