Abaco Lodge – Bahamas: Location, location, location! Location is arguably the single most important factor to a fly fishing lodge’s full offering of services. If you can find a lodge that is easy to get to in a single day of travel, in close proximity to an international airport and right on world class fishing grounds, you have found the ultimate trifecta. Abaco Lodge has set the ultimate standard for strategically located, world class fishing lodges. Ideally situated for fishing trips as short as a three day weekend and as long as a full week of spring break, Abaco Lodge combines quick access to phenomenal bonefish flats, deluxe accommodations and professional service. It is no wonder that this special destination has quickly gained international fandom and is widely respected as one of the premier operations in the Bahamas.
Located on the eastern side of Abaco, the lodge sits directly above the Marls, consisting of over 400 square miles of prime bonefish flats and marshes. Abaco Lodge is the only fly fishing operation located on the famed Marls, a vast maze of mangroves, flats and inhabited by arguably the largest bonefish population in the Atlantic. One of the most attractive features of the fishing program at Abaco Lodge is the proximity and minimal transportation time associated with daily trips. The lodge’s docks are located directly in front of the property on a bonefish flat, which provides the luxury of no trailering on a daily basis. One can typically expect no more than a 25 minute run to and from the lodge. Over the course of a full week of fishing, this might give anglers another 6 total hours of fishing compared to other saltwater lodges. Talk about value!
The Marls flats have a very healthy population of medium sized bonefish (2-5lbs) that see relatively little pressure even during the peak fishing season: March-June. This endless labyrinth of flats is arguably among the least pressured bonefisheries of the highest caliber in all of the Caribbean. If you want to pursue the infamous trophy bonefish of the Bahamas, Abaco Lodge will transport you over to the Cherokee Sound on the East side of the Island whose hard, white sand bottom flats make for ideal wade fishing. Bonefish are not the only name of the game either. There is consistent juvenile Tarpon fishing year round and the guides and staff at Abaco are honing in on the Permit fishing more and more. It seem that every year, more Permit are being landed out of Abaco Lodge which is an exciting development. Abaco Lodge only uses the latest Hells Bay Skiffs, providing comfortable access to the shallowest of flats. Using the best boats in the business and staffed with one of the most experienced and professional guide staffs on Abaco, the on-water service is world class.
The newly constructed, waterfront lodge overlooks the gorgeous flats of the west side of Abaco with perfect views of the daily sunset. The lodge includes eight air conditioned individual king rooms and three twin queen rooms with private bathrooms, fully stocked bar, sitting room, tying room, pool, sprawling patio, fire pit, WIFI and phone service. Not to mention that each bedroom features plush linens, rain showers and patios looking over the shoreline. The lodge also has a fully supplied fly shop that is well stocked with everything you would need for a day of fishing. Carrying top of the line brands such as Sage, Abel, Rio and Patagonia, the Abaco Lodge will make sure you are prepared for an incredible fishing experience.
If you are looking for a premier Bahamian bonefish lodge that is easy to get to, situated directly on blue ribbon fishing water, luxurious and comfortable but without fuss and an unreasonable price tag, Abaco Lodge should be at the top of your list!
