Crystal Creek Lodge – Alaska: Crystal Creek Lodge is located five miles East of King Salmon in the Katmai region of the Bristol Bay area directly on the blue ribbon Naknek River. The Bristol Bay drainage is world famous for having the most prolific and consistent Salmon runs on earth. These rivers are also home to incredibly healthy populations of wild Rainbow Trout, Grayling and Arctic Char who feed vigorously on the millions of eggs laid by spawning Salmon. The Naknek River boasts some of the best Rainbow trout fishing in North America with specimens caught over 30 inches every year! Variety is the name of the game at Crystal Creek Lodge. At any moment during the season, anglers can target up to four different species of fish between the Naknek and the many backcountry rivers and lakes which are accessed by float plane. These species include King Salmon, Chum Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Pink Salmon, Silver Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char, Dolly Varden, Arctic Grayling, Northern Pike, and Lake Trout.
In a region of Alaska with tens of thousands of square miles of wilderness filled with pristine flowing rivers, accessing the backcountry is an imperative part of the experience. Utilizing a fleet of four beautifully restored DeHavilland Beaver Aircrafts, Crystal Creek has some of the best equipment in the game to provide comfortable and consistent access to some of the most remote fishing in North America. Many of the fly out locations have a boat stationed at the landing sight to then effectively fish the river or lake. A fleet of eight river boats are ready at the Lodge dock. These boats allow guests to access the Naknek River in the event of inclement weather delaying fly outs or if outstanding fishing conditions are available on the Naknek River such as the early and late season.
The main lodge is a beautiful 7,500 sq. ft. building made of massive scribed logs and river rock overlooking the Naknek River. It is impeccably built, completely modern, warm, quaint and tastefully decorated. Lodge capacity is 14-16 guests depending upon week in the season: ten guests within five main lodge guests rooms and four-six guests in two private cabins. The food and beverage served at the lodge is truly first class with a menu that emphasizes local, fresh ingredients. Foods from the land and of the seas surrounding Alaska are featured whenever possible. Crystal Creek buys fresh garden vegetables, herbs and potatoes from Alaska farms, as well as fresh Alaskan salmon, halibut, King and Dungeness Crab, Kachemak Bay oysters, Spot Shrimp and scallops.
WorldCast Anglers is excited to host our first trip to Crystal Creek for their 2017 Bows, Bears and Beers Special! This trip is a five day, five night package with the option to do two or three days of flyouts and two or three days on the Naknek. The late season Rainbow trout fishing on the Naknek might be some of the best trout fishing on earth. Rainbows over 24 inches can be consistently targeted with streamers on single and two handed rods with fish over 30 inches coming to hand every year. In additional to prime time Rainbow Trout fishing, Arctic Char, Dolly Varden and Arctic Grayling can be consistently targeted on a daily basis. The icing on the cake: all Alaskan beer available at the lodge is on the house! Please see the trip report below from WCA Retail Manager Andy Asadorian and WCA guide Ben Rogers from their visit during the same week in 2016.
